NewsBlend is run by ElevenX2 LLC. This page explains, in plain English, what we collect and what we do with it. It covers three groups of people: businesses that use NewsBlend to send a newsletter, the readers those businesses email, and anyone visiting newsblend.app.
The short version
- We never sell personal information, and we never share a business's contact list with another business.
- A business's contact list belongs to that business. We store it and send to it on the business's behalf.
- Every email has a one-click unsubscribe. Anyone can ask us to delete their data.
Information we collect
From a business using NewsBlend:
- Your sign-in email address and password (stored scrambled by our sign-in provider, never readable by us), and the details you give us about your business: name, website, logo and colors, mailing address, notes, stories, offers and the facts your newsletter can use.
- If you choose "Continue with Google", your name and email address from your Google account. We ask Google for nothing else: no contacts, calendar, files or mail, and Google never gives us your Google password.
- The contact lists you upload or paste in, and any columns in them (for example names, tags or when someone joined).
- If you ask us to, what we find on your own website (see "Website scanning" below).
- Push notification settings if you turn on app notifications on your phone or computer.
- Billing details once paid plans start. Card or PayPal details are handled by the payment provider, not stored by us.
From a reader who gets a newsletter:
- Your email address and whatever else the business included when it added you, or what you entered when you signed up yourself.
- Whether you confirmed your subscription, and when.
- Whether you opened an issue and which links you clicked (see "Opens and clicks" below).
- Unsubscribes, bounces and spam complaints, so we stop emailing you.
From anyone visiting newsblend.app or a NewsBlend newsletter site:
- What you type into a sign-up, waitlist or contact form.
- Basic technical logs our hosting provider keeps for security and reliability, like IP address, browser type and pages requested.
Contact lists: whose data it is
When a business uploads its contacts, the business decides who is on its list and why. We process that list on the business's behalf, following its instructions, to send its newsletter. The business is responsible for having permission to email the people it adds.
By default, everyone a business uploads gets a one-time email asking them to confirm (double opt-in), and nothing else goes to them until they do. On a paid plan, a business can skip that step only by stating that those people already agreed to hear from it. See our email rules.
If you are a reader and want to know how a business got your address, the quickest route is to ask that business. You can also write to us and we'll help.
How we use information
- To write each business's newsletter, send it under the business's name, and publish its web version and story pages.
- To send confirmation emails and to process unsubscribes right away.
- To show a business how its issues did: opens, clicks and new subscribers.
- To catch bounces and spam complaints and stop sending to those addresses.
- To run, secure and improve NewsBlend, answer questions, and meet legal and tax obligations.
Opens and clicks
Our emails contain a small image that tells us when an issue is opened, and links go through NewsBlend first so we can count clicks before sending you on. The business that sent the issue can see this activity for its own readers. Open counts are approximate, because some email apps load images automatically and others block them.
AI-written news summaries
The news in each issue is summarized by AI, in our own words, from articles published by other news outlets, and every story links back to the outlet that reported it. We check summaries against their sources, but they can still contain mistakes, so the original article is always one click away.
Website scanning (only when you ask)
If a business chooses "fill it in from my website," we read that business's own website (the home page and a handful of pages on the same site) and suggest details for its newsletter. Nothing is saved unless the business keeps a suggestion. We don't scan anyone's website otherwise.
Companies that help us run NewsBlend
We use a small number of service providers. They handle data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: our database and file storage, in the United States.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Google: only if you choose to sign in with your Google account, to confirm it's you.
- Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES): sending and receiving email.
- AI providers: OpenAI (including through Codex), models reached through the Vercel AI Gateway, and Jev from TypeSafe AI. They help write news summaries, read a business's own website when asked, and suggest things like column names or a draft note. We don't send readers' email addresses or names to AI providers.
- PayPal, once paid plans start, to take payments.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people or the service from fraud or abuse, or as part of a sale or merger of the business, in which case this policy would still apply.
What we never do
- Sell personal information, or share it for other companies' advertising.
- Share one business's contact list with another business or add its readers to someone else's newsletter.
- Give sponsors our readers' email addresses. The one labeled sponsor spot on the Free plan is shown inside the issue; the sponsor never sees who gets it.
Unsubscribes, bounces and complaints
Clicking unsubscribe in any issue stops that business's emails to you immediately. If an address hard-bounces or someone marks an issue as spam, we stop sending to that address from every business on NewsBlend, so no one else can email it through us by accident.
How long we keep information
We keep account, contact list and issue data while a business's account is open, and for a short period after it closes to handle billing, disputes and legal needs. We keep a minimal record of unsubscribes, bounces and complaints (the email address and the reason) for as long as needed to make sure those people aren't emailed again.
Your choices and how to delete your data
- Readers: use the unsubscribe link in any email. To have your information deleted, email us from the address you want removed.
- Businesses: you can edit or remove contacts in the app at any time. To get a copy of your account data or close your account and delete it, email us from your sign-in address.
To request deletion, email hello@newsblend.app with the subject "Delete my data". Tell us the email address involved and, if you know it, which business's newsletter you received. We'll confirm the request came from that address, then delete the data within 30 days and let you know when it's done. We keep only the suppression record described above, so you aren't emailed again.
Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have other rights, like knowing what we hold about you or correcting it. Email us and we'll handle those requests the same way. We won't treat you differently for asking.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited to the people who run NewsBlend, and our providers maintain their own security programs. No system is perfectly secure, so if something goes wrong we'll tell affected people as the law requires.
Children
NewsBlend is a tool for businesses and isn't aimed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you think we have, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell businesses with active accounts by email before it takes effect.
