A broader enrollment network

Clear has widened its role in TSA PreCheck, giving travelers another way to apply for the government’s expedited airport screening program. Its in-person enrollment services are now offered at dozens of major airport locations around the U.S., alongside hundreds of participating retail sites. The expansion adds another practical option for people deciding where to complete the required registration process.

The company entered the program’s authorized provider network in 2024. It now operates alongside Idemia and Telos, bringing the total number of approved enrollment companies to three. Whichever provider a traveler selects, the resulting TSA PreCheck membership and its benefits are the same. The meaningful differences are the locations available for enrollment and the fee charged by each provider.

How enrollment works

A traveler applying through Clear begins by submitting information online. The process is then completed in person at a participating Clear enrollment site. Walk-ins are accepted, so an appointment is not required, but applicants need to arrive with the documents needed for registration. That combination of an online start and an in-person finish makes proximity to an airport or retail location an important part of the decision.

Buying Clear+ is not a condition for applying for TSA PreCheck through Clear. Someone can use the company solely as the enrollment provider and still receive the same government screening membership offered through the other authorized companies. Travelers also do not need to be current Clear customers before beginning a PreCheck application there.

Renewing through Clear

Existing TSA PreCheck members may switch to Clear when it is time to renew. It does not matter whether their original application was processed by Clear, Idemia or Telos. For most members, renewal can be completed online rather than at an enrollment location, and the renewal window opens as early as six months before the current membership reaches its expiration.

Clear also offers its combined pricing arrangement to renewing members. That can be useful for someone who already intends to add Clear+, though the two memberships remain distinct. A traveler must complete a separate application for each service, even when both are purchased through the same offer. Using TSA PreCheck through Clear never requires an active Clear+ membership.

Understanding the bundle

The combined offer is priced at $219. The PreCheck portion runs for five years, while the package covers the initial year of Clear+. Because the current annual price of Clear+ by itself is also $219, travelers already planning to purchase that service receive the PreCheck enrollment without an additional charge under the bundle. The same total applies when a TSA PreCheck renewal is paired with the opening year of Clear+.

After the traveler pays for PreCheck through Clear, the company supplies a unique promotional code. That code is used to register for Clear+ at the package rate. Once the included first year ends, Clear+ renews at its standard annual price, currently $219. PreCheck does not share that yearly renewal schedule because its membership term lasts five years.

Choosing the best route

The package is most compelling for travelers who already want Clear+, a membership-based service designed to move flyers to the front of the TSA line. TSA PreCheck serves a different purpose: vetted members who have paid the enrollment charge can use faster security lanes at airport checkpoints. Although the two services can complement each other, purchasing and using one does not depend on having the other.

Travelers interested only in TSA PreCheck may want to compare Clear with Idemia and Telos because standalone enrollment and renewal charges differ among the providers. Credit card benefits can also change the calculation. Many travel cards provide statement credits toward PreCheck application costs, while some premium cards separately reimburse Clear+. Available locations, provider pricing and any applicable card credits can therefore determine which enrollment route offers the strongest value.

What to know
  • The $219 bundle includes five years of TSA PreCheck and one year of Clear+.
  • Clear+ renews at $219 annually after the bundled first year.
  • Most renewals can begin online six months before expiration.
  • Walk-in applicants must bring the required enrollment documents.
  • Clear, Idemia and Telos are authorized enrollment providers.
Why it matters: Travelers have more places to handle PreCheck paperwork and another pricing option when choosing airport security memberships.
