Donner Trail Elementary sets Nov. 8 community event
The school and PTO are pausing the annual Thanksgiving dinner fundraiser.

Donner Trail Elementary School is replacing this fall’s Thanksgiving Dinner Fundraiser with a Community Celebration Day on Sunday, November 8. The gathering will take place on the school’s campus and welcomes the wider community, including district families, former students and local business partners.
School staff and Donner Trail PTO officers agreed to suspend the dinner for one year while Sugar Bowl Resort, its longtime venue, completes renovations across the property. The fundraiser has brought the summit community together for more than 40 years, connecting current and past families, alumni, businesses and community groups while generating support for the school.
The new celebration is intended to preserve that community connection and highlight how decades of support have benefited the campus and student programs. Principal Amy King said the school will miss the shared meal at Sugar Bowl this fall. Sugar Bowl Resort CEO Bridget Legnavsky said the resort expects to welcome the community back for the Thanksgiving dinner next year. The school will provide the event time and the schedule for dropping off gear-swap items in future updates.
