The Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card is aimed at travelers who regularly stay with Hilton but want a lower annual fee than the brand’s premium cards. It costs $150 each year and includes automatic Hilton Gold status, which can provide a food-and-beverage allowance or breakfast for up to two guests at eligible properties, plus an 80% points bonus.

The card can return up to $200 annually through four separate Hilton statement credits, with a maximum of $50 in each quarter. Eligible spending includes direct bookings, room charges, dining and purchases at Hilton-property shops. Cardholders who spend $15,000 in a calendar year receive a free night reward. Spending $40,000 can unlock Hilton Diamond status through the end of the following calendar year. The card also includes National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive status after enrollment, travel and purchase protections, and no foreign transaction fees. Hilton points are generally most useful for award stays, though the number required can change because Hilton uses variable pricing.
