Delta Drops Flights to Eight Destinations
Nonstop service to Gatwick, Geneva and Papeete is among the routes disappearing.

A smaller route map
Delta Air Lines has removed eight destinations from its network since 2025, eliminating a mix of international, leisure and domestic services. The reductions include Papeete, London Gatwick, Geneva, Midland, Williston Basin, Yellowstone Airport, Mazatlán and Argyle International Airport. Cirium aviation data was used to identify the changes.
The carrier is concentrating its flying around stronger markets and discontinuing routes that performed poorly. The scale of the reductions is notable for an airline operating more than 1,000 aircraft, though the consequences differ by destination. Some cities retain Delta service through another airport or connecting itinerary, while others have lost the airline entirely. In several markets, Delta’s departure also leaves fewer nonstop choices or removes a particular city pair altogether.
Long haul links disappear
Los Angeles International Airport no longer has Delta’s nonstop connection with Papeete. That service, the longest-established route among the eight analyzed cuts, ended during July 2025. The decision also marked Delta’s departure from French Polynesia, taking Tahiti off the carrier’s network rather than merely changing the flight’s point of origin.
Delta ended its sole nonstop operation to London Gatwick in September 2025. Travelers can still reach the British capital on Delta through London Heathrow Airport, which receives service from most of the airline’s major hubs. Even so, the Gatwick withdrawal removes the airport-specific option for passengers who preferred London’s second-busiest airport.
Geneva followed in October 2025. Delta’s exit left United Airlines as the sole US carrier serving the Swiss city. Another transatlantic option remains through SWISS, which operates throughout the year between Geneva Airport and New York. The change therefore reduces airline choice without ending Geneva’s nonstop connectivity with the US.
Domestic airports lose service
Several smaller domestic airports were also affected. Delta stopped operating between Austin Bergstrom International Airport and Midland International in November 2025 after the route underperformed. Southwest Airlines consequently became the only carrier flying that Texas city pair.
In September this year, Delta eliminated every flight it operated at Williston Basin. Its withdrawal from the North Dakota airport also left the Minneapolis route without service. The impact extends beyond the loss of one airline because the former city pair now has no operating carrier.
Yellowstone Airport lost Delta’s seasonal connection from Salt Lake City during the same month. Those flights are not anticipated to resume next year. For travelers who used the limited seasonal schedule, the cut removes both Delta’s link and its presence at Yellowstone Airport.
Leisure markets affected
Mazatlán remained on Delta’s network until April this year, when the Minneapolis service ended. Passenger demand was weak, while Sun Country Airlines, the hometown carrier, provided substantial competition. The cancellation takes Delta out of that nonstop market to the Pacific coast destination in Sinaloa, Mexico.
The eighth removal is Argyle International Airport, which serves Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Delta’s departure from Saint Vincent eliminates its nonstop route to Atlanta. No airline now competes directly on that particular city pair, although the country has other links with the US.
American Airlines and JetBlue continue to offer nonstop service from Argyle International Airport to other US destinations. Caribbean Airlines also flies to New York throughout the year. Those alternatives preserve direct US access from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, but they do not replace Delta’s Atlanta connection or provide another carrier on the same route.
What changes for travelers
Across the eight cuts, the practical effects range from an airport substitution in London to the complete disappearance of particular routes. Delta customers bound for the British capital can use Heathrow instead of Gatwick, while Geneva retains nonstop US flights through other airlines. Papeete, by contrast, has disappeared from Delta’s network along with the carrier’s broader presence in French Polynesia.
The domestic reductions carry similarly varied consequences. Southwest Airlines still connects Austin and Midland, but Minneapolis no longer has service to Williston Basin. Yellowstone’s seasonal Salt Lake City flights are not set to return next year. Together, the changes show how Delta is shifting capacity away from weaker services and reinforcing a hub strategy centered on its principal markets.
- Papeete service from Los Angeles ended in July 2025.
- Delta withdrew from London Gatwick in September 2025.
- Geneva flights ended in October 2025.
- Williston Basin and Yellowstone lost Delta service this September.
- Mazatlán service from Minneapolis stopped in April this year.
