Simi Valley Gets Punked by Colorful Historic Characters
A local feature brings Simi’s historic figures into an unexpected, colorful style.

Strathearn Historical Park became a showcase for Victorian-era imagination during its Oct. 3 steampunk gathering in Simi Valley. Katie Pratt, Alestra Burdick and David Tower explored the grounds in period-inspired outfits. The genre blends Victorian design with an invented retro future driven by fanciful steam technology.
Costumed participants filled the park with distinctive details. Sean Tohill wore a steampunk-style top hat and goggles, while Cristian Brueckner moved around on spring shoes incorporated into his outfit. Andy Lin and Jet Ace spoke with visitors, Lucy Ashworth carried an umbrella for relief from the heat, and photographers captured images of dressed-up attendees.
The event also brought its playful historical theme to families and vintage machinery. Two-year-old River, held by Devynn LaChance, turned a rope-making machine with assistance from park volunteer Doug Lonngren and River’s grandmother, Lisa Mann. Elsewhere, the windshield on a Ford Model T Touring Car from 1915 mirrored the surrounding crowd in costume. Together, the clothing, demonstrations and antique vehicle gave Simi Valley residents a colorful encounter with the park’s historical setting.
