Tahoe ski areas unveil major upgrades for winter
New lessons, expanded snowmaking and lodge improvements will reshape the guest experience across several mountains.

Sugar Bowl will debut key pieces of its $100 million redevelopment this winter. The centerpiece is an eight-passenger gondola serving the village. The refreshed lodge adds more seating, firepits, a fire-resistant deck and dining at Yarrow and The Terrace. Beginners will get a wider, gentler learning zone designed to require less snow, while 13 additional snow guns will support training terrain.
Mt. Rose put close to $2 million into mountain and lodge work. The resort replaced a main snowmaking pipe, bought another grooming machine and added safety bars across its lifts. Guest Services and pass sales have moved within the lobby, and Wildslide Snow Tubing Park gains a covered lift plus expanded lodge amenities.
Palisades Tahoe has a $799 package for newcomers that bundles three group classes with equipment and lift access. Finishing all three earns the participant a season pass, along with later discounts. Palisades also committed $3.2 million to remotely operated avalanche systems and expanded snowmaking on Mountain Run. Northstar adds Mandarin-language instruction, while Kirkwood introduces weekly programs for young children and older youth. Heavenly is refreshing its food lineup and planning DJ entertainment.
- Northstar’s Mandarin sessions are January 23, February 27, and March 20.
- Kirkwood’s Mini Rippers Mondays serves children ages 3-4.
- Sugar Bowl is replacing disposable dining supplies across all three lodges.
- Palisades added three diesel-electric grooming vehicles.
