Tahoe Construction Season Ends With Progress on East Shore Trail
The Tahoe Transportation District reported updates on the East Shore Trail and State Route 28 corridor improvements.

Seasonal construction is wrapping up after the Tahoe Transportation District advanced several connected projects on the lake’s East Shore near Incline Village, Nev. The work supports future extensions of the East Shore Trail while adding parking away from Nevada State Route 28, where vehicles currently stop on steep shoulders.
The two-lane scenic corridor serves popular public lands but has few designated parking areas and limited trail connections. During busy summer days, hundreds of cars can line the roadside, contributing to safety concerns and effects on Lake Tahoe’s environment. The broader improvements are intended to replace shoulder parking, reduce congestion and runoff-related water-quality impacts, and give residents and visitors more ways to reach recreation by transit, bicycle or other alternatives.
The transportation district is coordinating with Nevada transportation, parks and lands agencies, local jurisdictions, the Tahoe Fund, federal forest managers and regional planners. A new interactive StoryMap, developed by the Tahoe Fund with Design Workshop, presents the trail experience and shows how the corridor projects connect. The Tahoe Fund is also raising money for the trail’s next phase through personalized trout plaques, names on the East Shore Trail Donor Wall and future scenic vista purchases. The nonprofit says it has used $35 million in private contributions to help obtain more than $220 million in public funding for over 250 environmental projects.
