Lake Tahoe History Talk Set for Oct. 20 in South Lake Tahoe
Melissa Trader will discuss Osgood Toll House keeper history and the Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery.

The Lake Tahoe Historical Society’s next free program begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20. It will be hosted at the South Tahoe Association of REALTORS building, 2307 James Ave. in South Lake Tahoe. The presentation welcomes every age, refreshments will be available, and donations are accepted.
Melissa Trader, who leads guided historical tours as an Al Tahoe Pioneer Cemetery docent, will present her research in a PowerPoint. Her investigation began after the Osgood Toll House opened at the History Museum Complex. She wanted to determine whether Osgood had been buried at the pioneer cemetery. Her work instead uncovered the toll keeper’s life and eventual fate. Guests will also receive a keepsake commemorating the toll house opening.
The evening doubles as a twice-yearly meeting for the society’s general membership, including officer elections. Visitors may park in the lots serving the History Museum or Senior Center. The museum and bookstore operate Saturdays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., with appointments also available through mid-December; both close during Thanksgiving week. Annual memberships cost $20 for seniors, $25 for others and $40 for families. Lifetime options are $125 for one person or $250 for a family.

Evenings at the lodge now end on the sand: s'mores kits at the front desk, blankets by the door, and the lake going quiet at dusk.
