Fall Exhibit Opens at LTCC’s Haldan Art Gallery
The gallery welcomed local residents, students and faculty for an opening reception.

David Burke’s fall exhibition, “What’s Left Behind,” is on view at the Haldan Art Gallery at Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe. Burke, an Oakland-based artist, works with ink, resin and acrylic, creating fractured landscapes that examine encounters between industry and nature. The exhibition opened with an Oct. 8 reception attended by local community members, LTCC students and faculty.
The show pairs Burke’s recent art with “Building Blocks,” a set of 64 paintings on 8-by-10 panels. He made the series 26 years ago for his thesis exhibition in Rome, then shipped the pieces home and kept them boxed until this summer. Burke and Julia Marianelli, LTCC’s new Art Department head, became friends while attending graduate school at Temple University in Philadelphia. Marianelli contacted him six weeks before the show, beginning the process of bringing his work to the gallery.
Elizabeth Vargas curated the installation, determining the arrangement and visual progression of Burke’s pieces with help from gallery assistant Brianda Ortega. The exhibition’s title reflects Burke’s interest in human legacy, environmental effects and the survival of his earlier work across roughly three decades in the arts. Admission is free, and the exhibition continues through December 4. The gallery, at LTCC’s 1 College Drive campus, welcomes visitors Monday through Thursday between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., plus Sunday from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
