Smoke Door Lake Tahoe in Kings Beach will host a one-night dinner with two chefs from Bangkok’s Saawaan on October 15th. The eight-course meal costs $168 per person, before tax and gratuity. Guests may reserve either the 5:00 PM or 7:30 PM seating through the Experiences section on OpenTable.

Saawaan’s Saritwat Wanvichitkun, known as Chef Earth, and Chayanin Tanapradit, known as Chef Pond, will cook with Smoke Door’s Koji Hanada and Matt Tinder. Instead of blending everything into a single style, the kitchens will take turns presenting courses. Thai and Japanese ideas will remain distinct, with cooking by flame providing the connection.

Earth grew up in Phuket and studied French and Thai culinary methods. His recent exploration of wood-fueled cooking helped shape the partnership. Hanada previously spent four years at Den in Tokyo, which holds two Michelin stars, before working on the launch of Jiu and deepening his experience with live-fire preparation. Pond and Tinder will create the dessert portion together. Tinder’s résumé includes Meadowood, Saison and Coi, while his Saboteur bakery earned him semifinalist recognition from the James Beard Awards.

What to know
  • Saawaan has retained one Michelin star for four straight years.
  • The menu spans eight courses.
  • Reservations are listed under OpenTable Experiences.
