Aimi Xistra is making another bid for a South Lake Tahoe City Council seat. She finished third in an earlier election and sought last year’s vacant position. Her campaign focuses on representing the local workforce, businesses and younger residents while taking a decades-long view of Tahoe’s future. Xistra has lived in the city for 30 years. In 2022, she became development director for the local Boys & Girls Club.

On housing, Xistra favors improving existing efforts before adding more units. She opposed Measure N, the unsuccessful vacancy-tax proposal. She points to openings at Sugar Pine Village and supports the long-term rental incentive, which she has used herself. She also wants housing information to reach J-1 participants and seasonal employees, along with better programs for accessory dwelling units.

Her broader agenda includes stronger infrastructure, better evacuation preparation, support for businesses and environmental education for Tahoe guests. Xistra believes the city moved too quickly on vacation rentals while related court cases remained unresolved. She also wants more cooperation and advance preparation on the council. Xistra is not actively raising campaign money. Instead, she plans coffee conversations and other gatherings where residents can meet her.

What to know
  • Xistra has served on the city’s Arts, Culture and Tourism Commission.
  • Her community work includes Embarc and Multicultural Celebration advisory roles.
  • She says applicable council matters would prompt her recusal.
