A traveler used a five-minute Japan Airlines schedule adjustment to move two Finnair Avios business-class awards to another day, replace Narita with Haneda, and secure JAL’s Airbus A350 suites at no added cost. The original Narita–Los Angeles trip was reserved in November, and JAL sent the schedule notice in August. Its online search produced alternatives about a week on either side of the initial departure, including itineraries connecting through Osaka.

The passenger retrieved the trip through JAL’s booking manager and searched beyond the replacement displayed by the airline. After choosing Haneda–Los Angeles, they reviewed the revised itinerary and submitted it. JAL confirmed the reservation change. Finnair’s website reflected the new flights and indicated that ticket processing could take 24 hours. A call to Finnair completed the reissue without another fee.

Both passengers remained in business class, but their date, Tokyo airport and aircraft changed. Online flexibility varies by reservation, especially when a different carrier sold the ticket. The seller also remains responsible for refunds and may need to reissue the ticket after JAL modifies the itinerary. Until that processing is finished, the flight reservation and underlying ticket may show different details.

What to know
  • JAL’s A350 business cabin contains 54 private suites with doors.
  • Beds reach 78 inches, while entertainment displays measure 24 inches.
  • Another Boston–Narita award shifted by one day after a 15-minute adjustment.
  • An Alaska customer facing a three-hour change found fewer online options.
