American Offers Confirmed Holiday Upgrades on Select Routes
AAdvantage members must complete the booking and upgrade request by September 30, 2026, at 11:59PM CT.

American Airlines is offering some AAdvantage members a rare way to secure business class immediately with a systemwide upgrade. Travelers must purchase premium economy and submit the upgrade request before the deadline. Eligible departures fall within November 22 through November 28, 2026, or December 20, 2026, through January 1, 2027. A purchasable business-class seat must still be available when American processes the request.
Qualifying trips include American-marketed, American-operated aircraft equipped with premium economy. The itinerary must link the U.S. with Europe, Asia or South America, unless it is an eligible coast-to-coast domestic route. Hawaii is omitted, along with Auckland, Brisbane, Delhi, Sydney and Tel Aviv. Requests may be placed through American’s app, website or telephone agents, with confirmation expected a few hours later.
Ordinarily, systemwide upgrades clear early only when American releases designated inventory. Otherwise, members join a queue and may not know the result until later. This promotion removes that inventory requirement for its limited holiday periods. It also comes with a higher starting-cabin requirement because an economy fare cannot qualify.
- Award reservations do not qualify.
- Enrollment in the promotion is unnecessary.
- The offer applies only to flights run by American.
