Three-Year Club Refit Reveals a Better Golf Bag
Jess Ratcliffe’s swing changes and new equipment led to different shafts, lofts and fairway-wood choices.

After three years with the same irons and two years with much of her upper-bag setup, single-figure golfer Jess Ratcliffe went through a complete TaylorMade Kingdom fitting. Her swing had gained speed and changed its release pattern, raising a practical question: did her equipment still match the way she delivered the club?
The testing produced several changes. Her driver speed measured 91–92 mph with a mid-level rotation pattern, and a Ventus Red + 5 S shaft produced four straight center strikes. A Qi4D Core driver at 9 degrees also delivered better speed, distance and accuracy than her existing combination. The biggest bag surprise came at the next end: a 5-wood was more dependable than either her 3-wood or 3-rescue, so those clubs were removed while the 4-rescue stayed.
Her irons also needed attention. A 7-iron speed of 75–78 mph showed that the existing shaft was too soft for her current move, so testing shifted to a Dynamic Gold 95 with a firmer tip. That combination reduced launch and tightened the shot pattern, including on less-than-perfect strikes. The pitching and gap wedges were strengthened by one degree to preserve distance gaps and lower flight. The fitting emphasized repeatable contact, predictable carry and smaller misses over simply chasing extra yards.
- Driver testing identified a mid-rotation swing profile.
- The new driver head was set at 9 degrees.
- A 5-wood replaced both the 3-wood and 3-rescue.
- Pitching and gap wedges moved one degree stronger.
