MyGolfSpy Finds Price Didn’t Predict Putter Performance

Testing nearly 50,000 putts found several lower-cost models ahead of much pricier competitors.

Golfers shopping for a putter do not need to assume the highest price brings the best results. MyGolfSpy compared 79 blades, mallets and zero-torque models during 2026 testing, using the same PuttView process for every club and nearly 50,000 total putts. Retail prices were then matched against the performance results.

The data showed no dependable connection between cost and putting results. Lower-priced blades and zero-torque models performed better on average than the weakest clubs in those groups, while the leading mallets cost only slightly more than the bottom five. Mizuno’s M.Craft Osaka led the blade category at $299.99, and the $200 Cleveland HB Soft 2 Black Retreve outscored the $499.99 Scotty Cameron Phantom 5 among mallets. Zero-torque putters were strongest overall: the top 15 clubs in a combined ranking all came from that category. The Odyssey Ai-Dual S2S #7 won there at $449.99, although its listed sale price was about $350. Three of the category’s four best performers cost $229 or less.

What to know
  • 79 putters were tested across blades, mallets and zero-torque designs.
  • Bettinardi’s BB 6.0 and BB 7.0 topped the mallet results.
  • The Toulon Formula 90 finished 17th among zero-torque models.
  • The Scotty Cameron Fastback OC placed last in that category.
