IRS Replaces IRS2Go With Expanded Mobile App

The free app offers selected individual account tools while IRS.gov remains the main source for tax services and information.

The IRS has replaced IRS2Go with a redesigned mobile app that gives taxpayers secure access to some individual account details and self-service features. The free app is offered through Apple’s App Store and Google Play. People who already use IRS2Go may receive the replacement through automatic updates rather than downloading another program.

The app is an added mobile option, not a substitute for IRS.gov or the agency’s online accounts. The website still carries forms, guidance, tax tools and broader services. Business Tax Account and Tax Pro Account access also continues through IRS.gov, while the mobile app initially focuses on selected services for individual taxpayers. Phone and in-person help remain available for issues that require personal assistance.

The IRS says more functions will be added later. It also warns users about imitation apps, advertisements and unsolicited messages that seek account information. Official app listings and links on IRS.gov are the agency’s verified sources. The IRS says it will not request sensitive financial or personal details through an unexpected text, email or pop-up.

What to know
  • IRS2Go debuted in January 2011.
  • The app is available on Apple App Store and Google Play.
  • More mobile services are planned for future updates.
