Women’s Health selected eight winter coats for women after editors evaluated more than 20 options. Testing focused on fit, materials, warmth, comfort and styling with clothing such as leggings, ski pants and hoodies. The coats were considered for cold commutes, snowy conditions and ski trips, with testing that included 10-degree weather.

The Canada Goose Shelburne Parka ranked first. Jennifer Nied wore it during colder months in Colorado and while hiking. Its close-fitting shape reaches mid-thigh, while the snorkel hood wraps around the face. The slightly snug design still leaves room for light layers, and Nied found her usual medium true to size. Interior shoulder straps allow the coat to hang like a backpack when the sleeves are removed, and a snap-fastened rear vent offers another way to cool down. Long sleeves end in snug, sweater-like fabric that can extend over the hands.

The Canada Goose coat combines a water-repellent cotton-and-polyester exterior with responsibly sourced down at 625 fill power. Its stated comfort range runs between negative four and fourteen degrees Fahrenheit. Fleece-lined pockets warm the hands, though their button closures may hold belongings less securely than zippers. Other tested choices included a Columbia down jacket with a removable fur-lined hood, large pockets, water-resistant polyester and synthetic insulation. Another long puffer extended below the knee and used 700-plus fill power goose down for conditions reaching negative 48 degrees Fahrenheit. Its recycled polyester shell and lining resist water and wind, and details include a detachable hood, thumb holes and fleece-lined pockets.
